Since 1995, Throwing Toasters has been on the cutting edge of Comedy Rock. They have gone from complete obscurity to almost complete obscurity with their blend of wry, witty lyrics and catchy guitar riffs. Constant favorites on Dr. Demento's national radio show and college stations across the United States, Throwing Toasters is leading the way in the Comedy Rock Revolution that will (they hope) start sweeping the land.
Throwing Toasters is a band... on paper, anyway. They have reportedly four members: lead singer/guitarist Grant Baciocco, guitarist Dirk Underwood, bassist Timmy DuFell, and drummer Stev "Musty" Jurgens. However, whenever Throwing Toasters is scheduled to play a live show, Baciocco is the only member who shows up. He always has some excuse as to why the rest of
the band is not there. Dirk, “Musty,” and Timmy have never been seen and many wonder if they exist at all. Baciocco insists that they do, and says that they are just victims of a never ending string of bad luck.
"N.R.L. (Nursery Rhyme Lawyer Song)" is the first single off the brand new CD, CHROME. The idea for the song came about when Baciocco was substitute teaching a group of fourth graders, and while reading nursery rhymes to them he thought, "Man, if Jack and Jill had lived in this day and age, they would have had a lawyer in the blink of an eye!" The rest is
comedy rock history.
The song features audio cameos by fellow comedy rock musician Rob Paravonian as Jack B. Nimble, Throwing Toasters’ publicist Barbara Williams as Mary, CHROME producer Jody Whitesides as Humpty Dumpty, and Sarah Jo Marks as The Old Woman Who Lived In The Shoe.
The band has produced three CDs to date and proudly declaim that each one was made on a Mac. "The master discs and graphics for our first two CD's, Alvin and burnt, were made completely on my old Performa 6115 PowerPC,” says Baciocco. "Our latest release, CHROME, was recorded, mixed, and mastered on two different Power Mac Dual 800 G4's. The graphics were done on a G4 as well. That makes CHROME a complete Macintosh Production."
Baciocco uses his Dual 800 G4 to run every aspect of Throwing Toasters—mailing lists, the band’s Web site, press kits, band finances—you name it, it’s done on a Mac! For Throwing Toasters, there is no other computer. Baciocco is also very proud that he owns every single issue of MacAddict. "Being on the Disc is a dream come true!"
